“Charming inn – a great find, off the beaten path, funky design, beautiful setting”

The photo on Trip Advisor doesn’t do justice to the charm, gorgeous setting and Maria’s (the owner’s) hospitality. The place is a mix of original farmhouse character and avante garde design. We plan to come back and recommend it highly. If you’re a little adventurous, looking for a serene country setting in the heart of untouristy Umbria, and don’t need the Ritz-Carlton, this place offers a wonderful and different vacation experience. We were the only Americans here at the time and speak no Italian but got along just fine.

The rooms, suites and apartments are decorated in good taste and quirky design. My husband and I stayed in the deluxe double room (called Dulasia) on the second floor at the beginning of May, which was considered mid-season rates for about $120 a night, including breakfast.

When we decided to visit Umbria this Spring, we selected the small gem-of-a-town Amelia because of its central location to the other hill towns we wanted to visit. We weren’t sure about our decision to stay here because there were not many reviews in English and the both the arial and visual photos gave us the impression that this was just a reasonably priced, mediocre b&b. Well it’s much more than that. The views of expansive fields in a valley next to lavish green forested hills is breath-taking. The Michelin rated dining room with a chef trained at NY’s Cipriani offers a nice selection of locally grown and inventive Umbrian cuisine with a ma-and-pa atmosphere. The restaurant has a great local reputation and people we met from the area recommended the restaurant highly rated; in fact, one of the nights we ate there, there was a private party of 20 or so people at the table next to us.

Our room with a big operable window overlooking the pool had a wood plank ceiling from which hung an elaborate crystal chandelier; the brand new large bathtub had purple and blue light options, flanked by ornate columns and elaborate drapes–too complicated and quirky to describe, but what a creative, beautiful overall effect. The bed was comfortable and the furniture simple.
